Crossroads Therapy in School

A range of assessment options are available,  they are completed to identify the functional needs of a child. 

The assessments help to understand a child's strengths and challenges and the reasons behind these. They can help to formulate a targeted plan for therapy and will provide a list of recommendations to guide home and school in best supporting the child's needs.

Observation sessions can be used when a full assessment is not required. 

They consist of a Therapist observing a child for an hour within school and will require questionnaire to be completed in advance. 

A list of recommendations will be provided to support simple changes or adaptations in the setting, as well as advice on equipment and strategies that can be implemented. 

Therapy sessions within your setting requires the availability of a private side room with enough space for gross motor games. 

Sessions are completed directly with the child for 45 minutes (a further 15 minutes not with the child) and will need the child to be ready to be released from lessons/sessions for this time.  

This gives you the option to 'buy in' a Crossroads OT to your school (minimum 2-hours per week). The hours can be used as you see best for your individual school. This can be used for a options such as 

• Classroom observations with feedback advice 
• Individual child observation (with parental consent)
• Implementing class/school strategies 
• Child therapy sessions (with parental consent)
• Group work with children (individual parental consent required)  

Crossroads can custom build a project piece of work within your school. This is created to meet your specific needs and requirements. 

This has been done within Silverwood Special school to help implement an overview of Sensory Integration into the schools early Years and Year 7 classes (details available soon). These projects were completed over a 12-week period and included providing:

• Staff training 
• Implementing Sensory Motor Circuits 
• Classroom specific observation and advice 
• Covered a range of topics including transitions, regulation, seating, sensory breaks and more

Training sessions can be offered online or Face to Face. Training can to help upskill members of staff on specific topics including sensory, motor (fine and/or gross) skills, and emotional regulation. 

These can be tailored to best meet the needs of your specific setting and can be provided online or face-to-face. Training sessions can be done in bite sized sessions to fit into a staff meeting or as a larger session on a training day.
